Health and Safety
At Paul Blackledge Drilling Ltd, we take health and safety issues very seriously and, as such, we do our utmost to ensure that all our staff, clients and the public are as safe as possible at all times.
Nicola Blackledge is the health and safety adviser for the Company. Nicola has the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health and, along with Paul, the Managing Director of the Company, shares responsibility for all health and safety issues.
A written health and safety policy is distributed to all staff and reviewed annually. This must be read and signed for by all members of staff.
We have induction training for any new members of staff which is given by Paul and Nicola Blackledge. The induction training is a combination of hands–on training, instruction, information, guidance and safe systems of work. All aspects of health and safety are dealt with. Employees are issued with all the necessary Personal Protective Equipment which must be signed for and they are also made aware of their responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act, 1974.
All our drillers are BDA Accredited. In addition to this all of our staff have passed the NVQ Level 2 in Land Drilling or Dynamic Sampling. Paul and Nicola have passed the Work-Based Recorder Course which has enabled them to support their staff during NVQ training.
Each member of staff is registered with the CITB and has passed the CITB Health and Safety touch screen test. All staff carry a CSCS card with them at all times.
The majority of our staff have passed the Emergency First Aid for Appointed Persons.
We have done, and continue to do, our utmost to ensure every person in the Company has as much knowledge, experience and relevant training as possible.
All our rigs are serviced on a regular basis and are thoroughly inspected on an annual basis in compliance with PUWER, 1998. All wire ropes are inspected every six months in compliance with LOLER, 1998. All our vehicles, too, are serviced on a regular basis and comply with all legal requirements.
We have Method Statements and generic Risk Assessments for each rig.
We have Public and Employers' Liability insurance plus Fleet insurance for the vehicles.
